About
Moto feeds is a company working with local pastoralist communities especially the Maasai to revitalize degraded grasslands by providing fodder solutions. These pastoralist rear their livestock across a seemingly endless range of lands. However, these landscapes are steadily degrading leading to recurring drought. Moto feeds has partnered with these Maasai communities to provide highly nutritious grass used as fodder and also provides an all-season soil cover called boma Rhodes. This grass restores their landscape in a way that benefits them financially.
Together we have trained them to setup their own seed banks to accelerate regeneration. The regenerated grass produces hay fed on by livestock and excess of it is sold to other farmers in the country. The women are involved in seed harvesting activities for regeneration giving them an extra source of income. We sell the seeds and hay to other herders for income. With the generated revenues these communities are now able to take their children to school as opposed to looking for pasture hence improving their living standards. We so far managed to work with 900 families and the project has been successful.
We, therefore, need financing and business planning support in these key areas.
A) Expand and reach other pastoralist communities.
B) Purchase modern grass cutting and hay baling machinery.
C) Construct modern hay and seed storage facilities.
If we are strengthened in those key areas, we shall be able to reach out to more pastoralist communities and help to restore the degraded grasslands while providing fodder solutions.
