Revitalizing degraded grasslands by providing fodder solutions to the Maasai's community.
INTRODUCTION
Moto feeds is a company working with local pastoralist communities especially the Maasai to revitalize degraded grasslands by providing fodder solutions. These pastoralist rear their livestock across seemingly endless range lands. However these landscape are steadly degrading leading to recurring drought.Moto feeds has partnered these maasai communities to provide a highly nutrious grass used as fodder and also provides an all season soil cover called boma Rhodes. These grass restores their landscape in a way that benefit them financially.
ABOUT
Together we have trained them to setup their own seed banks to accelerate regeneration. The regenerated grass produces hay fed on by livestock and excess of it sold to other farmers in the country. The women are involved in seed harvesting activities for regeneration giving them an extra source of income. We sale the seeds and hay to other herders for income. With the generated revenues these communities is now able to take their children to school as opposed to looking for pasture hence improving their living standards.We so far managed to work with 900 families and the project has been successful.
